HTPS’s Sailing School’s Competent Crew course, equips you with the skills needed to act as a crew member of a sail boat. The course is aimed at anyone interested in starting a sailing hobby and does not require previous experience.

You can avail a discounted price for the course, if you are are already a member of HTPS. Alternatively, you can opt to apply for a membership when purchasing the course. Members of other clubs may also register for the course at the same price as a new crew member.

The course is organised over the week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings consisting mostly of theory, with some practical exercises on water. Friday evening, as well as all of Saturday and Sunday will be spent on water. Thursday is a day off.

The course will be held at HTPS club island, Pyysaari and runs from 5 PM to 9 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 6 PM on the weekend.

The course will be organised according to standards of Finnish Sailing Teachers Association – a Traficom audited and approved sailing institute.

The course price will include a snack, coffee or tea during weekdays and a lunch meal on the weekend.

Membership option

Participating in the course requires membership in a sailing club or boat club under SPV. If you are not already a member of HTPS or another club, it is best to join as a crew member. A crew member otherwise has the same membership rights and benefits, but no right to apply for a boat berth in the club's ports. The membership category can be increased later from a crew member to a full member by paying the difference in the joining fee according to the fee table. Under 18 joins the club as a youth member.
Terms

The customer has the right to cancel participation in the course no later than 14 days before the course, in which case the course portion of the paid fees will be returned. If the cancellation occurs less than 14 days before the start of the course, 50% of the course price will be refunded. The membership fee and the joining fee are not refundable. No cancellations/refunds after the course has started. If the club cancels the course and there is no substitute course or participation in such is not possible, the course fee and membership fees will be returned to the customer in full.

The contract for participation in the course is created between the organising club and the customer, the recipient of the payment is Helsingin Työväen Pursiseura ry.
